Now that we’ve made it into fall and our schedules are going to be more of, well, scheduled, we promise we will not let you down and sure to be posting frequently.
When I went out shopping this fall I of course made my rounds to American Apparel. Their clothing is not only stylish but the all cotton fabric makes it oh so comfortable. While prowling through the racks I noticed a new edition, the Afrika line. Debuting dresses, leggings, headbands and even swimwear with traditional African print. Pretty different from the typical monocromatic pieces in the rest of the store. What I couldn’t help but notice is how similar Afrika was to eclectic fashionista M.I.A’s clothing line KALA Tour. I quickly became annoyed, questioning as to why American Apparel shared such a similar design.
Then I looked at the price tag.
The Afrika print leggings from American Apparel are $34.00 while M.I.A’s are $85.00. On a college student’s budget that’s a pretty easy decision. But is that wrong? Or is the Afrika print the next trend and lining the racks to stores such as H&M?
I guess we’ll see….
